I am trying to slow things down more with my art these days-take each part of the process and break it down, see if I can make my seemingly simplistic texture more complex in nature and take the work (to quote mad tv) to a “whole nother level.”. one way I’m trying to stretch and push myself is going far outside my comfort level with my color palette to boldly go where I have never gone before. I’m working with primarily mauve, magenta and purple tones…but it would be my paintings if I didn’t infuse my deep reds, oranges and white into the mix. I’m starting to get he feel a bit for the new colors, a few are attached. hopefully the colors are showing through.

The 3rd graders are creating a self-portrait using influences from what they learned about Frida Kahlo.  One important aspect about Frida’s self-portraits are she painted objects and animals such as monkeys, cats and nature in her backgrounds…

]]> http://raymonddifley.com/2010/01/just-a-little-frida-kahlo-from-my-art-teaching-job/feed/ 0 so…it’s been awhile… http://raymonddifley.com/2009/12/so-its-been-awhile/ http://raymonddifley.com/2009/12/so-its-been-awhile/#comments Mon, 21 Dec 2009 19:53:27 +0000 raymond http://raymonddifley.com/2009/12/so-its-been-awhile/ okay, so been way too long since my last entry!! crazy fall/winter, where all is busy, way too busy! been teaching art up a storm and seeing some great inspired work coming from them;) also, been tackling my new task/duty of the school yearbook…am enjoying the process, albeit a bit challenging the first time through, bu ultimately will be a great addition to the j.o.b. have been working on the two commission pieces, which can sometimes take longer than expected for various reasons, especially during the winter ( the oils won’t dry just fast enough, even with medium!). the pieces are coming along well, am planning a blog entry that shows the development from beginning to end, but wan to finish first. the clients are coming by this week and am excited to show them the progress of their piece…

now that’s a lot going on, but that doesn’t include the family-holiday time! it’s great seeing our daughter really starting to get the concept of xmas and excited a out santa claus. are tree is tall and cheery presents slowly appearing under the tree and holiday festive cheer starting to fill the air and the smells and tastes of my lovely wife’s cookies.

just a quick blog to update all with what’s coming around the corner…

in the next few weeks i’ll be working on two commission pieces for a new client. one is 38 x 56 x 2.5 inches and the other is 24 x 12 x 2 inches. the larger one is going to be in my orange hues, with some structural feel with the white and dark brown/orange colors i use (similar to “compassionate industrialist”, which is on the site). the other one will focus in on my blue hues with the contrast of textural white. i plan on showing the evolution and process of the “commission piece” here as i go.

also, i’ll be preparing for a meeting with city art gallery in the mission on november 10. this is an opportunity for me to show them some of my paintings and discuss joining their coop gallery. it’s a great opportunity and looking forward to it! will keep you posted.
